Blog awards.

I have received two blog awards. One a few weeks ago and one just last week.

I feel a bit conflicted by this. Awards are just not my thing. Even when I won the Playmate of Year award last December, I decided to turn it down.

But I do appreciate that other bloggers like aspects of my blog and that's very cool. And I do like the two bloggers who passed on the awards to me... which makes not accepting the awards feel awkward. But if I accept one award and then not another, then that gets even more conflicting and I've seen some awards out there that set off some serious cringing! I would be eternally mortified! Not that the awards that I was offered are cringe-worthy but accepting them sets a precedent. Make sense?

So I think a 'no awards but thanks' policy is the best policy for my blog.

What do you think about blog awards?

*** If an award comes along with some serious hard, cold cash attached to it, consider the above null and void, lol! ***

  1. I received one and I had a picture of it on my blog for awhile, then I was like, okay this is cheesy.
And it didn't come with cash...which like you said, wouldn't be turned down.

  2. Nobody has given me any awards. As I'm a needy. external validation kind of person I would probably accept and be smug about it, and then wonder about the dodgy ones later

Some of the awards seem to be just patting your friends on the back. There's no voting or general consensus. And no money.

  3. I have no real opinion of web awards, but just wanted to say that I can now comment on your blog again - *yay*. (And I'm sure you've been waiting anxiously for me to do so!)

  4. I really like your botanic pics from your backyard. And it's allways a pleasure to read how your mustard makers did this n' that n' another. So I'll give you this CREATIVE blogger award. Don't have a single original idea in my head and don't even know what creativity means. But still.

Does that answer to your question? :)

  5. A no from prkl then! (wtf is a mustard maker? lol)

I'm often suspicious of external validation, Mog... though moreso from people who actually know me! ;-)

  9. When I started this blogging stuff, nobody mentioned the aspect of awards and I wasn't blogging for any awards anyhow. The real awards are the friends you meet while blogging and the friendly banter back and forth. Too me, if somebody has even thought about presenting me with an "Award", it means that they are getting something out of what I write and vice versa. And I appreciate that more than any Award. It's a personal choice I suppose and I respect yours. ;-)

  10. prkl... where'd your blog go?

    A fair point there, Bogey!

Fifty quid? Some simple grovelling would have been sufficient, Neil. But ok, that's fifty quid and a beer and a coffee that you owe me (not that I'm keeping track ;-)).

  11. If the award involves money (or, big shiny *bling*) - I'm all for it. Otherwise, it depends on who's giving it...

  12. I say that I don´t need them because it just tilts my train of thought to unwanted direction. Then you have to give it to someone else but chances are high that they have trouble finding the next 5 person too. It´s too much hassle really.
