Skywatch Friday... love boat

I went down to Ogden Point today, a local port at the entrance to the harbour here in Victoria, BC, Canadaland.

Victoria has become a stop for many cruise ships on the west coast of North America. Good for the local economy and easily amused Skywatch Friday blogger chicks...

... but I can not understand the appeal of being held captive in a floating hotel with a dress code. What kind of hell is that?

My dear Mom is going on cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii next month with some friends. She'll be getting up bright and early to get her ass from home here in Victoria over to Vancouver to board her boat.

First port of call after Vancouver? Victoria, lol! I'll be going down to harbour to wave. :-)

  2. Big ship! Not that any ship could be big enough to take away the feeling of restriction for me. However, cruises seem very popular, hope your mum has a good one.

  4. The last photo with the whole cruiser was so uplifting. Like the clouds could lift that boat up to a better fantasy world.

It sounds like hell but I could use it some day. It seems so inviting when you have never had it.

  5. I've heard there's wonderful food and pampering available on a cruise. Plus the beautiful views. Too bad I get seasick. Hope your mom has a great time. Nice Skywatch Friday theme, Sarah

  6. Wow - that is one big boat! A friend compared a cruise to being stuck in a shopping mall for a week...

I've been busy traveling and today is the first chance I've had to catch up (should be working, but...) I like the new look here - very clean!

  7. Great shots and beautiful blue skies! Looks like a great time for a cruise! I've taken a few and enjoyed them -- they do spoil you, the food is great and fortunately I don't get seasick, but they are crowded -- the shopping mall comparison is pretty apt!

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Marnie, We gotta meet, I just love your humour. Great series of photos. It is hard enough to live on a little island where everyone knows yours business I can not even imagine what it is like to cruise on one of those ships and I don't think I want to find out. Thanks for stopping by.

  9. Lol, I've never fancied cruises either and have been truly baffled by twentysomething friends who love them. Reminds me of the very scathing comments our boat tour guy in Amsterdam made about the cruise ships which dock there before heading down into the Rhine and their occupants - the best being the horror of how people would 'forget' to pull their drapes shut at night!

  10. I'm not a fan of crowds, I have a little issue with motion sickness and I HATE shopping malls, so I'm guessing here, but it strikes me that I might not quite enjoy a cruise!

  11. Thanks people... I think my Mom will enjoy it. She likes crowds and malls and variety entertainment, etc... She's went on a cruise to Alaska and she loved it.

    Different strokes!

I've asked for a coconut bra as a souvenir. ;-)

  12. I agree, I would hate to be captive on a ship with all those people, and having to get tarted up to go eat, not my scene. I'm sure your Mum will have a great time, and if you get your coconut bra I hope you will post a picture. (with you in it of course)

  14. I'm sure your mom will love it but it sure isn't for me. I'll stick with little boats and ferries. The dress code really would do me in, I would have to go shopping!
