Scary flags.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned to my friend Simon that my Mom was in Hawaii. That sparked a piece of trivia out of his head... 'did you know that the Union Flag/Jack is on Hawaii's state flag?'

'Really?' and I googled cos I wasn't convinced and yep it is. And yep, that's one eyeball boggling flag ain't it?





From the page I was on, I could go see the other US state flags. A few US state flags were familiar to me (Arizona has a groovy flag) but most were not. So I thought I'd go to the page and have a look and this is where it gets really scary.

I've nothing against the US state of Maryland and I hope no one from Maryland reads my blog ;-) but their state flag is the ugliest flag that I think I've ever seen. Just look at it! No, don't! Run away! Run away!





If you know of an uglier flag, please let me know!

Anyways...

Enough bitching about flags. How about some laughs about them?

    Antarctica has a kinda sorta interesting flag. Probably created by somebody inhaling glue or other mind bending intoxicant. Thanks for the laugh. Izzard is quite an interesting character!

    MLM is pleased to see you called it the Union Flag. He says it can only be called a Union Jack when flying on a ship. He's ex Navy so knows about things shippy.

    I really dislike Izzard. I don't know why though.

    New Jersey is average.

    The union jack/flag is known to many round these parts as the butcher's apron. So much blood has been spilled by those wishing to plant it on others that it kinda makes me cringe. Why Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia etc. would choose to use it is beyond me.

    But i guess the colours look quite smart next to each other and aye, what were Maryland thinkin about. Yeeeeeuuucch!

    South Africa, Seychelles and Nepal has pretty awful flags. Google those if you want to lose what's left with your eyes. But don't blame me if.. ;)

    PRKL, you're havin a laugh, mate. Just checked and Nepal, Sooth Efrikay and the Seychelles (particularly Seychelles) flags are all fantastic.

    Next you'll be tellin us you don't like the Macedonian flag.

    LOL! We have this saying in Finland. Rougfly tranlates; It's a matter of taste, said the dog while licking its ass. No fence NALDO.

    Macedonians seemed to rip off Flag of the Rising Sun (Japane warflag in WW2). Original is in my top 10. Macedonians are at the another end. Back end. :)

    Hey Bogey, which one is the Antarctic flag? I get several different flags in my searches... although they all have that glue sniffing look, tbh! haha!

    Hiya Mog... yeah I got a lecture about that once and once was enough. ;-) I hate that Izzard can walk better in heels than I can but I think he's very funny.

    Hey man, I'm from Maryland! Ok, here's the deal. It is kinda ugly, but for someone from MD, it's got a certain quality. In fact, I'm thinking about getting a tattoo of it. That's dedication buddy.

    I think you're a moron re: your comments on Maryland's flag. I have always thought it's one of the more interesting flags of the US. It is patterned on the coat of arms of the Calvert family who founded Maryland, so it's based on something historical rather than something stupid. It's the only flag in the US based on the coat of arms of a founding family of a state, and it probably dates to 1622!

    As for liking the Arizona flag... WTF? Good for an acid trip, huh?

    Oh yes, an arbitrary symbol of self-defined social status aka a coat of arms from a wealthy family... who likely participated in the exploitation of the poor, the indigenous peoples, the disenfranchised during the colonization of the Americas for their own personal financial gain... that ugly symbol (on so many levels) on a flag... oh no, that's not stupid at all.

    Actually, what's even stupider, is someone actually taking anything on blog seriously! It's unfortunate that you're anonymous, otherwise I'd email you a sense of humour.
