High on Music

I'm not sure that The Lawrence Welk Show ever went beyond Canada and the US, but it was a very popular musical variety show on TV in the 50s through to the early 80s. It was a show that your grandparents watched; very corny, very wholesome. Yet, with the passage of time, pretty much everyone now feels it's safe enough to admit that they watched it too. ;-)

I remember watching it, every Saturday night. My parents liked it and, well, we only had one TV channel, so...

Many years later, it now has a bit of a cult following and is repeated now and then on PBS (public broadcasting service) as there are some real gems. Like this modern spiritual about Sweet Mary and Jeebus:

Caídas!

I learned a new word! I think it's Spanish (do you know, Jayne?) or maybe Portuguese?

Either way, Caídas! It means fall, as in tumble, in English and when you plunk it into the Google video search thingy, you find gems like this:

Am I a sadist for loving this sort of thing?

Naked Ladies

Yesterday I went to a local art gallery (The Avenue Gallery) to see 'Leonard Cohen: Art Work' - a "collection of his Jean Cocteau-like sketches, features multiple self-portraits, as well as images of Leonard Cohen's homes in Montreal and on the Greek island of Hydra..."
Her Hand in the Sand

While I was meandering print by print, I crossed paths with a man and a little boy. We all stopped in front of the same print above and the boy said, 'he sure liked drawing naked ladies' as nonchalantly as if he could have meant drawing apples. Priceless.

I enjoyed the exhibit very much and was drawn to this piece in particular.
Deeply Familiar

But the $2,600 price tag is beyond what I'm willing to pay, especially for a print. Still, I do like it!

You can see all the entire collection here, though they look a bit different all framed up hanging on the gallery wall.

People are funny...

You just never know who you'll bump into.

A couple of days ago, I was out and about, camera slung over my shoulder when a woman came bounding by me from behind. We were approaching an intersection, so she stopped and I caught up. Looking down, I just had to ask.

She said that they're called Kangoo Jumps and, for her, mean the difference between running or not running. Regular running shoes aggravate her arthritis. She happily posed for a photo! She was 72, she was! Stated loudly and proudly. Then the light turned green and off she ran...

And ran...
